Jamieson Shetland Wools We are pleased to be stocking Jamieson Shetland wools. Processed and spun in Shetland, Jamieson produce the widest range of colours imaginable. At the last count there were over 200 colours in both 4 ply and double knitting weights.

Unfortunately, we cannot stock the full range of colours and so we are putting together kits for the most popular patterns from the Simply Shetland books and offering an order service for other colours.

British Breeds Wool and Yarn
British Breeds Wool and Yarn Great British Yarn's selection of British Breed Yarns comes from Blacker Designs (or Natural Fibre Company) in Launceston in Cornwall and Proud Yarn of Kingsbridge in Devon.

The Natural Fibre Company is a mill that processes small runs of fleece from local farmers and smallholders. They are one of only a very small number of mills in this country that will take on small quantities. They are registered with and licenced by the Soil Association. The owner markets the yarns under the name Blacker Designs.

Proud Yarn - which is our second supplier of British Yarns - is a customer of the Natural Fibre Company. Sandy, who owns the business prides herself on all her fleece comes from farmers and smallholders 'within a packhorse ride of Kingsbridge! These are wonderful yarns and some have been handdyed by Sandy.

Knitting Accessories Great British Yarns are delighted to be stockists of buttons from Patricia Baggott. These are handmade by Patricia and come in a range of fabulous shapes, sizes and colours. Patricia offers a matching service and will make buttons to order. If you are interested in this service, please contact us and we will pass on your details. Please note: these buttons are machine washable, but not dry cleanable.

Our stitch markers from Atomic Knitting are really pretty as well as being useful. Obviously we are biased, but we think these are some of the nicest around. The sizes of the beads has been carefully selected and do not get in the way of your knitting! We offer them in three sizes for all types of knitting.

Pattern tamers will save you hours of frustration and frogging! These clever little strips will help you keep your place when knitting from charts. We have a range of very pretty designs.

These super tape measures come in a range of designs and are very cute. Ideal for knitting gifts.

We also stock a large range of Pony Knitting accessories. These often hard to find items are a must for any knitter.

Dye it Yourself
Dye it Yourself A great selection of undyed wool and yarns for you to dye yourself! Great British Yarns stock a large range from the finest of laceweights to a luxurious alpaca/silk aran knitting yarn. We also stock Fibre Harvest Organic yarns. These organic merino yarns are spun at Coldharbour Mill in Devon and have to be some of the softest yarns around.

Fibre Harvest Organic Yarn A range of fabulously soft and pure organic merino wool which is undyed and unbleached. Spun by water wheel at Coldharbour Mill, Uffculme, Devon.

Coldharbour Mill, a 200 year old spinning mill is set in the tranquil village of Uffculme, Devon. Built by Thomas Fox to spin woollen and later worsted yarns in 1799, Coldharbour Mill is a rare example of surviving Georgian architecture, industry and enterprise.

Since reopening as a museum in 1982 the mill has continued to produce high quality worsted knitting yarn on its period machinery. All proceeds from the sale of wool goes towards the restoration and preservation of the factory and mill site.
